Nadia Mounier

I am a visual artist, working with photography and video, My work center on street-documentary photography and representations of the self. I like to navigate the idea of ‘public space’, specifically spaces where anyone can do anything at any given moment: the non-private space, spaces that are economically uninteresting. My recent work investigates the pictorial representation of the (Arab) woman in public and private contexts through a series of self-portraits that are interested in forms of self-dramatization and censorship. I am a member of few collectives, amongst them Cairo Bats, a collective that draws attention to our presence as women within the city through image production, and Everyday Egypt.
